Oh shit, my foot's on fire, I gotta go," mutters one deadpan gent over shots of the band riding bumper cars. But one female caller sums up the Arcade Fire's teetering balance of commercial appeal and soulful empathy perfectly: "Your product gave me my life back. Miroir Noir is not a product that is likely to give anyone their life back.
The behind-the-scene footage Cold Wind - Arcade Fire - Miroir Noir - Neon Bible Archives (Deluxe Edition) (DVD) hardly revelatory, presenting the band hammering out ideas in the studio and relaxing on the road.
Chassagne's pixie-like buoyancy shines through the random chop-cuts and marks her as the film's most endearing force. We see her tiny feet straining to reach the pedals of the massive church organ she plays in "Intervention", and later witness her effusive glee at the recording of the song's backing orchestra. Her liveliness is a welcome foil to Butler's ponderous inscrutability. Though he joins Tim Kingsbury for a camera-mugging slow-dance to "Ocean of Noise" at one point, Butler is mostly a lifelike portrait of stoic detachment throughout.
Morisset seems to realize this, providing a lengthy steadicam shot of Butler's back as he walks through a festival audience, always already alone in Sarah Vaughan And Orchestra* - Sarah Vaughan And Orchestra crowd.
I've said little about the music in the film, which should not be taken to imply that there is not much of it. But it's mostly given to us in snatches, brief studio and live Cold Wind - Arcade Fire - Miroir Noir - Neon Bible Archives (Deluxe Edition) (DVD) that serve to keep the film loosely on track. The artsy editing finally relaxes enough to allow the live footage to build to a visceral climax with Funeral 's anthemic duo of "Neighbourhood 3 Power Out " and "Rebellion Lies ", whose melding is ever a high-point of an Arcade Fire gig.
It's the most potent reminder of the Arcade Fire's ambitious art that Miroir Noir possesses, and if the film does nothing more than remind us of its subjects' transcendence in its final bow, then it can be called a success. The clear limit to the film's success is that it doesn't do much more than that, ultimately. But I will have to keep on searching. Anna Wiener's Silicon Valley memoir, Uncanny Valleyreveals a piratical industry choking on its own hubris and blind to the cost of its destruction.
Around the same time, Joshua Deu left the band to resume his studies; he continued to collaborate on the visual aspects of the band. Before a crowd packed beyond capacity, the band's set ended in the middle of an encore with an argument between Butler and Cold Wind - Arcade Fire - Miroir Noir - Neon Bible Archives (Deluxe Edition) (DVD), who quit the band on-stage. Following the on-stage implosion, Butler's brother William Butler subject of the early Arcade Fire song "William Pierce Butler" and Tim Kingsbury were brought in to replace Reed and Mills so that the band could continue, and they set out to promote the self-titled EP.

It's not an actual event, but one that I took to be real. I would say that it's probably something that the kid made up, but at the time I believed him.

So as a thought experiment, we tried to write what that might sound like. More of an anthem that could be playing at a big sporting event like the [Hunger] Games.
So we did a structure for that, and then James Newton Howard made a movie-score version of it that happens in several places in the film. According to Spin Mobile"'Horn of Plenty' sounds both exactly like Arcade Fire and exactly like a futuristic anthem. There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later. If one has seen Arcade Fire in concert, then you know that it is an almost religious-like experience. Unfortunately Win Butler has expressed a general impatience with conventional concert films. To some extent, I can understand this sentiment. However, a great many concert films have not had performers as dynamic on the stage as Arcade Fire.
So, in place of a more conventional concert film, we get snippets of songs and a bit of a fly on the wall's perspective of backstage and in the studio. It is stylish in its own way and it does work.
That said, I'd really have preferred an entire, uninterrupted concert from this wonderful band. The bonus DVD is worth getting. Granted, by the time one finishes watching it, one might wonder if "Keep the Car Running" was played on an endless loop it is featured a number of times on the bonus DVDbut the performances are still unique and lively. Although nothing will ever take the place of actually being at an Arcade Fire show, I do hope that the band will see fit to eventually release a more conventional start to finish concert film.
I really love this dvd. If you are a big Arcade Fire fan get this ltd edition version dvd. Not a complete live concert but a variety of live and studio clips. Well produced and has a great Cold Wind - Arcade Fire - Miroir Noir - Neon Bible Archives (Deluxe Edition) (DVD).
I have watched this 5 times and it just confirms what great, creative musicians they are. If you are looking for a live complete concert DVD, hopefully they will Wes Smith, Short Stack - Ride That D one someday, but this is not it.
Then I saw this DVD. Great concert footage, great style, great cuts and flows from scene to Cold Wind - Arcade Fire - Miroir Noir - Neon Bible Archives (Deluxe Edition) (DVD) and song to song. The footage in the elevator was unique and great.
I heard that going to an Arcade Fire concert is like having a spiritual experience - well I had that from just watching this DVD so I can only imagine seeing them live. This is coming from an Arcade Fire newcomer The bonus DVD Tarantella - Jean-Louis LeRoux / The Performing Arts Orchestra - The Tempest worth getting I highly recommend any enthused, loving Arcade Fire fan to purchase this dvd and experience the love, hope, sadness, reality, and wonder that is Arcade Fire, their performances, their music, and their whole impact to a person's soul.
I'd read reviews before purchase and I was aware that the dvd was not just a compilation of songs on their Neon Bible tour. It was not a camera recording them playing on stage, it was much more. The dvd is so beautiful and makes you feel like you're there with Arcade Fire.
The camera is shaking and at times blurry or This Place Is Empty - The Rolling Stones - A Bigger Bang quality, which gives it a very homemade feel, like you were taking the video yourself.
